VAVA – Siza Vieira

Collaboration with Architect Álvaro Siza Vieira

As glasses are a rigid object, they need to fit perfectly to the face and become a mechanical part of the body.

The collaboration with Álvaro Siza Vieira, a leading figure in contemporary architecture, is the result of the undeniable connection between VAVA

and the work of Siza Vieira, creator of many iconic buildings from the last 50 years.

This partnership is reflected in a “capsule collection” of limited/numbered edition eyewear and another collection of continuous production.

This is a fact that deserves to be celebrated, as Siza Vieira was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1992.

VAVA – Portuguese Eyewear Brand

VAVA glasses have a sophisticated, contemporary, and urban look. They are subtly futuristic, conceptual, and timeless.

VAVA’s motto is to offer a high-quality product that encompasses the experience, knowledge, and artistry of the great Italian masters

of handcrafted eyewear. This knowledge is being lost in a time when handmade production is flourishing, yet dominated by the use of low-quality materials.

This approach, combined with the use of the highest quality materials, makes VAVA unique.

The collection will be available at André Opticas from January 2019.

Roberto Cavalli Snake-Collection Launch

On November 13th, André Ópticas on Avenida da Liberdade hosted celebrities from the world of television, lifestyle, fashion, and blogging to get an exclusive first look at the new capsule collection from the Italian brand Roberto Cavalli.

The new ICONIC SNAKE COLLECTION is a true tribute to the DNA of the ROBERTO CAVALLI brand: Sensuality and glamour define this new collection, paying homage to the true spirit of the Cavalli imagination, expressed through the iconic serpent.

Sinuously applied to the proposed frames, the Roberto Cavalli emblem characterizes the pieces in this capsule collection, defining their exclusive and refined nature, also determined by the use of pavé sparkling crystals.

The profiles of these frames are animated by sinuous metallic snakes, which wrap around the temples, their silhouettes covered in Swarovski crystals.

All the must-haves in this collection feature the serpent winding along the entire temple.

In addition to enjoying a cocktail to the sounds of DJ Rui Santoro, guests were also able to take photos in a custom photobooth and share the moment on social media.

Crafted using 100% handmade techniques, the model – Study for an Asymmetry – created by the museum’s super curator Anabela Becho, was made from Asian Buffalo Horn. An eco-friendly, lightweight, hypoallergenic material that displays unique colour nuances and patterns characteristic of each animal.

Head to Rua Augusta to experience this design piece in person, heart-made for the most discerning eyewear enthusiasts, at the exclusive AndréOpticas exhibition – Behind the Shadows.

Exhibition “Por Detrás das Sombras”

The exhibition “POR DETRÁS DAS SOMBRAS” (Behind the Shadows) evokes one of the accessories that has undergone the greatest transformation over time, presenting a selection from the André Opticas Collection (which includes over 3,000 vintage pieces), showcasing some of the most important items in the history of eyewear. In the vault room, a selection of around 400 pairs of glasses highlights the key brands, styles, designers, and changes in shapes and materials that have shaped the evolution of glasses from the 1950s to the present day. While it focuses on contemporary times, there are significant historical flashbacks, including examples from the 17th century.

The aim is to show the public the evolution of eyewear, its major transformations in shape, color, material, and applied technology, as well as how it has contributed to the definition of different styles and languages over time, being both actors and vehicles of various perspectives on material culture. André Opticas was founded in 1981 within an optical family in Oeiras.

In the same year, André Leal was born, and from an early age, he accompanied his parents on their travels, work, and shared passion for eyewear. By the age of 15, he already had experience in lens cutting, frame repairs, and it was around this time that his interest in collecting, especially bold eyewear models, began. Collecting has always influenced his life, his friendships, his travels, and his profession.

L.G.R. La Polverosa Special Edition at André Opticas

                                                                                                               ..

With the help of experienced hunters, L.G.R. developed a specific model for hunting, which provides protection against high-impact forces around the eyes without compromising the hunter’s field of vision.

The frame, with “Dantesque” proportions, is made from Mazzucchelli acetate and, when worn, completely surrounds the eye area, resembling a ski mask. The yellow, photochromic polycarbonate lenses finish off the beauty of La Polverosa, allowing for enhanced vision of details, with lens color intensity adjusting according to the amount of light, either from the day or the surroundings.

La Polverosa is a valley in the Maremma region, at the heart of Tuscany, that remains untouched in a self-sustaining system relying only on its natural resources. In this place, the art of hunting is still practiced with the spirit of another era. The traditional values of a true hunter remain anchored in the past, as if La Polverosa were immune to the passage of time.
