EYEVAN 7285
EYEVAN started in 1972 with the concept of “wearable glasses” and expanded internationally in 1985. EYEVAN’s products have not faded to this day, and you can feel the high level of skill of the producers and craftsmen, as well as the imagination and strong enthusiasm of the design team at the time, in the products and hand-drawn drawings.
In 2013, after about 40 years, a new design team took over EYEVAN’s craftsmanship and created EYEVAN 7285, a collection that has given a new shape to the collection.
The design sources for EYEVAN 7285 are various objects such as old glasses, telescopes, hand mirrors, and other old tools collected by the first generation design team, as well as man-made objects such as buildings and natural objects that the designer himself saw.
They blend these vast design sources and incorporate them into products called eyeglasses. The temples are inspired from French forks manufactured in the 1940s, the metal frame incorporates the structure of eye test frames from the 1970s, and the hardware feature patterns inspired by the arabesque patterns of old Japanese temples. It is the embodiment of an idea.
In addition, EYEVAN 7285 products are created using a complex production process that combines the manual work of skilled eyeglass craftsmen in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, one of the world’s top eyeglass production areas, and machine-made using the latest machinery. Glasses, which are created by combining traditional manufacturing methods and new manufacturing methods, often have simple and casual designs at first glance, but the details are extremely skillful, and the process is carried out by hand by a limited number of artisans with particularly high skills in Sabae. accounts for the majority. The glasses, which take time and care to create through approximately 400 steps, are more like modern crafts than industrial products.
KameManNen – Since1917
The history of KameManNen, which is said to be the oldest eyewear brand in Japan, began in 1917 at the city of Fukui, with a plating factory called “Kimura Seisakusho”. After the Second World War, this was developed to an eyewear factory based in Sabae and KameManNen was born. In 1981 KameManNen successfully used titanium, which is known for its durability and lightness to produce eyewear for the first time in the world, introducing Sabae’s high production quality to the world. The name KameManNen came from a Japanese proverb, “A crane lives a thousand years, a turtle ten thousand years” (Tsuru wa sennen, Kame wa mannen in Japanese. A proverb depicts longevity)”, which was the desire of the founder, Kikujiro Kimura. The brand aspires to continue the concept of KameManNen to pursue not only the beauty of the design itself, but also precise production of eyewear of the highest quality.

TVR – True Vintage Revival
TRUE VINTAGE REVIVAL
A piece of soul into a pair of eyewear
There are no rocket science tools or methods used in the making of True Vintage Revival (TVR) eyeglasses. Known as the home to handmade eyeglasses, Sabae, Japan has created a positive impression to connoisseurs of the industry as a breeding land for talented artisans who have developed their skills and an eye for precision that are said to be better than machines. And here’s where every piece of TVR eyeglasses are made.
Using mainly hand tools that are passed down from master to apprentice, most of these museum-worthy pieces carry some of the most prolific history in eyewear evolution. Vintage design features are greatly highlighted in the making of the TVR classics. These include the keyhole-bridge, functional spear rivets, 7-barrel hinges, and miter cut techniques that are boldly executed with the unrivalled skills and technical know-hows. Piece by piece, every one of a TVR eyewear is honed with decades of expertise by selected artisans from Sabae.
Each pair of glasses starts with the “Datum Expression Size” technique, a specialized measurement method commonly used during the 50s in Japan to obtain the subtle balance of the eyewear. TVR also refers to only original templates and blueprints in the creation process of these first-class traditional optical frames. Once the frame takes shape, the craftsmen will begin adjusting every little details with intricate care and precision.
It is easily overlooked that what is now called vintage was once brand new. As TVR continues to bring forth authentic vintage styles with traditional skills, iconic designs and high-quality materials, we are also paving the way for classic vintage eyeglasses to once again be mainstream through true vintage revival.
